Serena Williams makes history as the first athlete on Forbes' Richest Self-Made Woman

Tennis icon, Serena Williams, is the first athlete to make Forbes’ annual list of the World’s Richest Self-Made Women, with an estimated fortune of $225 million.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion’s fortune has been made as a result of her “brain and brand rather than her backhand”, with the star investing in 34 startup business in the past five years alone.

The impressive Forbes title comes days after she lost to American Sofia Kenin in the third round of the French Open.
