Sex for marks: Ex OAU lecturer released from prison
A former lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife, Richard Akindele, who was jailed for two years in December 2018, has been released from prison.
The professor of management accounting was released on March 19 and has reunited with his family, TheCable reports.
He was jailed by a Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State after pleading guilty to a four-count charge filed against him.
Akindele was dragged to court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for demanding sex to pass one of his students, Monica Osagie.
The scholar first pleaded not guilty before changing his plea on the judgement day.
According to the online platform, the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State will on May 19 hear an appeal against the lecturer’s conviction.
