#SexForGrades: UNILAG lecturer, Boniface Igbeneghu, hospitalised after allegedly attempting suicide
Suspended UNILAG lecturer, Dr Boniface Igbeneghu, exposed in BBC Africa Eye’s #SexForGrades investigative documentary reportedly attempted suicide on Monday night.
Igbeneghu, who is also a pastor of a local parish of Foursquare Gospel Church, was exposed in the BBC undercover report for allegedly demanding sex from a reporter who posed as a 17-year-old admission seeker.
A social media user wrote on Twitter on Tuesday morning that the senior lecturer is presently receiving treatment at Reddington hospital in Lagos and is under supervision after his attempt to take his own life failed.
The Twitter user wrote:
“Boniface Igbenehue attempted suicide last night & is currently in Reddington hospital, under supervision. We need him alive to face the university’s disciplinary panel & be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Nigerians have now reacted saying, he must live to face the law.”
He added:
“You cannot hurt the lives and careers of young women, be exposed & think you will have the easy way out by choosing your demise. we will not take it o.”
Since the documentary was released, UNILAG and the Foursquare Gospel Church has suspended Igbeneghu.
