Renown content creator, Shade Ladipo has reacted to claims that Burna Boy was “cheated” out of winning the Grammy Awards.

Recall that Burna was nominated in the category for Best World Music Album but he lost to legendary Beninese singer, Angelique Kidjo.

Some Nigerians felt he was the most deserving of the award. But media personality, Shade Ladipo does not agree and she addressed it in a video.

In the video shared to Instagram, Shade Ladipo said that even Burna Boy knows that it’s an “honour” to have been nominated in the same category as the legendary Angelique.

She added:

“If Fela was alive, Fela and Angelique Kidjo, they’re mates.”

She went on to reiterate that the person Burna Boy looks up to – Fela – is the one in the same league as Angelique.

Sharing the video, she wrote:

For the Burna Boy fans who claim he has been cheated, pls know your history, know your music
Burna is a great artiste but it takes more than 1 Album and 2 years of Faux touring the US to become the standard for World Music

Exactly the point. He stood no chance. An absolute honour for him to have been nominated with her and the fact that she recognised and dedicated the award to him is a big deal. Burna is definitely on the right track. With more work and consistency, he will win soon.

Your reasoning is flawed, here’s why,

1. Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X and Lizzo all came out last year. They basically won the bulk of the awards. It doesn’t matter if Angelique came out in the 16th century, Grammys are awarded based on merit. Not if she’s Herbert Macaulay’s age mate.

2. Nobody heard of her album Celia until the Grammys. She got that award out of sentiment. Not because it was better than Burna’s

3. Faux Tour??? Once you go from city to city performing, that’s actually a tour.

4. This stupid African mentality that old people are always right and must get everything is the reason Africa is backward today. That’s why we have leaders without WAEC certificate and can’t use a computer.

You should really be embarrassed for posting this garbage.

ANYBODY CAN WIN A GRAMMY! It wasn’t made for old people and Angelique Kidjo.

PS: I admire and respect her a lot too.
