Nigerian singer Simi has finally broken her silence over the arrest and ongoing trial of upcoming rapper Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
She revealed this while responding to questions from her followers via her Instagram page.
A fan had asked if she was happy about Naira Marley’s arrest and she replied ‘No’.
Recall that Marley’s face off with Simi was the root of the social media post believed to have put him in trouble with the anti-graft agency.
Simi had shared an IG post to speak against internet fraud popularly known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ telling the ‘Yahoo Boys’ not to buy her album.
Few days after the post, Naira Marley took to IG to allege that he was snubbed by Simi at a social event in Lagos, asking Simi if he was a ‘yahoo boy’ to deserve a snub.
He further shared a live video where he justified ‘Yahoo Yahoo’, saying it is a major contributor to the Nigerian economy.
His claim irked so many social media users who lambasted him for justifying fraud.
After the controversy evoked by his claim, Naira Marley released a song ‘Am I a Yahoo Boy’ featuring Zlatan Ibile.
The EFCC arrested him alongside four others a few days after releasing the song. While others were released, he was detained and arraigned over 11 count charges bordering on cybercrime.
The rapper was remanded in prison by a Lagos court on Monday until May 30 when his bail application will be heard.
