Southampton have made their first move of the transfer window by bringing in defender Mohammed Salisu in a £10.9million deal from Real Valladolid according to reports.

The 21-year-old has penned a four-year deal at St Mary’s after the Premier League side triggered his buyout clause.

However, although the deal is complete according to Sky Sports he will have to spend 14 days in quarantine upon arrival in the United Kingdom due to the coronavirus travel restrictions in place with Spain.

Salisu has been an important player in a Valladolid defence that kept their heads above water in a battle against relegation this term by finishing 16th in LaLiga.

Having broken into the club’s first team from their youth set-up, Salisu has gone to impress by making 32 appearances in total this term.

The Ghanaian could be just the first of the defenders committing his future to the club in the coming days.

Kyle Walker-Peters is also expected to arrive from Tottenham Hotspur in a move worth £12million after impressing on loan during the second half of the 2019-20 campaign.

Southampton will be unlikely to add any more new faces to their backline unless they are forced to sell.

Jannik Vestergaard has previously been a target for Leicester City, but there has been no further interest from the Foxes.
