A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari over the drama that played out at the Federal High Court, Abuja on Friday as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) forcefully re-arrested Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare.
Ezekwesili told Buhari to immediately put a stop to Nigeria’s descent into fascism.
WuzupNigeria reports that barely 24 hours after releasing Sowore and Bakare over Thursday court order by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, DSS operatives while trying to re-arrest the #RevolutionNow convener, were seen in viral videos engaging Sowore and his supporters in a tussle inside the courtroom where his trial was expected to commence on Friday morning.
Reacting to the report, the former presidential aspirant quoted one of the viral videos and described the incident as full aggression against the Judiciary by the Executive arm under Buhari.
“It portends an extremely dangerous development,” she said
“President @, the whole world is watching the video of officials of the State Security Service which you directly supervise, brutally violate the constitutional rights of a citizen @ inside a court and desecrated our Judiciary- an independent arm of government.
“Let it also be known by @#.“that the cruel, unreasonable, or arbitrary use of the power he wields today as @ is alien to our Nigerian Constitution and International Law. I advise the President to cease this descent to fascism immediately and
“I have just spoken to the incredible Femi Falana — SAN whose amazing and highly effective legal representation of citizen @with a strong team of lawyers is the silver lining in this tragic case. I once again conveyed our abiding strong support and gratitude.
“I urge my fellow citizens who are reasonable enough to know that today’s episode amounts to full aggression against the Judiciary by the Executive arm of @and portends an extremely dangerous development. We must all stand to defend our hard won Democracy. We must. “
