For stealing goods worth N850,000, Edo court jails man for 15 years
An Evbouriaria Magistrates’ Court sitting in Benin, Edo State, has sentenced a 20-year-old man, Adamu Abubakar, to 15 years imprisonment for burglary and stealing.
Abubakar had been arraigned for stealing goods worth N850,000 on Sapele road, Benin.
The police prosecutor, Aigbedion Obakpolor, had told the court that the convict, with others at large, committed the crime in March.
According to Obakpolor, the said properties belonged to one Mrs Uyi Benson.
He explained that the offence contravened Section 516 and 413 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.
But the convict pleaded guilty to all the charges.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. F. O. Idiake, sentenced him to five years for each of the three counts, without an option of fine.
