Stop buying used phones, lady begs, narrates how taxi driver landed in jail
A lady has appealed to Nigerians on social media to stop buying second-hand phones to guide against running into trouble with law enforcement agencies.
She said most phones being sold as second-hand phones are proceeds from a robbery or kidnap operation, saying it has landed many innocent people in jail.
The lady took to Twitter to make the appeal while narrating the story of a taxi driver who has just been arrested for buying a used phone.
TWeeting via her handle @Iyawothickerbody, she noted that the man, who is struggling to earn a living and sustain his family by taking to driving taxi, innocently bought the phone without knowing it was stolen from a kidnapped victim.
She tweeted:
“Got home to a sad news, this very humble man going through the roughest phase in life, had no option so he started driving taxi just to sustain his family.. he has been sent to prison because he bought a second-hand phone and this same phone was stolen by kidnappers who went to kidnap someone a few months ago.
“Now he can’t provide these people who sold this phone to him cause they far gone (only God knows where)”
She appealed to social media users to “PLEASE GUYS STOP BUYING SECOND-HAND PHONES.”
“If you must buy, please tell the seller to follow you to a police station, so that they can track the phone if it’s a clean phone or involve a police officer to stand as a witness before you purchase,” she added
“Many people have died/put in jail cause of second-hand phones. Be careful out there”
