The Federal government has been advised to as a matter of urgency stop the importation of engineering products that are being produced locally into the country.

These engineering products that are being produced locally according to professor Kayode Adegun of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ilorin include vehicular component parts, floor and wall tiles and Upholsteries.

Delivering the 193 inaugural lecture of the University, Adegun said that the products are being produced locally in Aba in Abia state and they are of good quality.

The lecture is titled, “God the creator, Man the manipulator: The journey so far in Engineering manipulation of Fluids and Geometries for Human life.”

“since there is no gain without pain, as the Federal government did for rice by stopping its importation into the country, Federal government of Nigeria should also identify some engineering products being produced locally whose importation should summarily stopped. For example, importation of Tiles, Upholsteries and even some vehicular component parts should stop (go to Aba and see wonders). We must be compelled to patronize the local engineering products.”

Adegun also suggested that the Federal government should declare a state of emergency on engineering research and development and task Engineering/Technology with some specific products over a given period of time like five years which should be well funded.

He said that the government should utilize the fund from Petroleum resources which God had endowed Nigeria for the development of the nation adding that Nigerians should be patriotic and stop manipulation of the resources in negative ways.

“Oil which gives about 90 percent of our resources is a fluid; it should therefore be judiciously manipulated for the development of our nation. Enough of negative manipulation of our resources”, Adegun warned.

He also advised people to be mindful of what they eat, drink and do which could unduly and unnecessarily protrude their tummy adding, “for good thermal comfort and long lifespan, we should judiciously use the fluid around us and make sure we don’t pollute them.

“We should be measuring our tummy-chest(T-C) ratio regularly and see the medical practitioners/ those in human kinetics for appropriate counseling particularly when the ratio T-C is greater than 0.50.
