Its throwback Thursday and WuzupNaija will be sharing a clip where American singer, record producer and actor, Akon, spoke highly of his African counterparts like Wizkid, Davido, Psquare and other stars.
In the clip, Akon while speaking at Connekt Africa Summit in 2017, emphasised the need for Africans to give a better narrative for themselves as the developed countries do often times.

The singer said we have to tell and teach our own stories and eulogies our ancestors and the great things they had achieved.
The singer noted that Nigerian music stars are doing well for themselves and have put music in the forefront, unlike years were no one wanted to be associated with African music stars.
Akon said in part “Because now when you look at Hip-hop in America, every rapper is rich.
“Gold chains, Bentleys, nice girls by the pool with bathing suits in this big mansion and thn when the video is over they get on a phone and call a uber. They don’t even come in the Bentleys that you just saw on the TV.
“But you go to Nigeria, we’ve got Wizkid, Davido, P-square all these guys driving a Bentley, Mercedes, they actually own those cars.
“That’s the difference but if we don’t translate that, they would never know. They think we gonna leave the suit and go home on a horse or Zebra…
“This is why African American are still afraid of Africa. You mention Africa and they start to fear…”
