Terror attack scare inside Turkish parliament
Just days after Turkey was plunged into disarray by an attempted coup, latest reports inform that the country’s parliament was evacuated earlier on Monday over reports an attack was imminent.
According to reports, the building in Ankara was put into lockdown over the terror fears.
Security was immediately stepped up and the gates were slammed shut after the alert was made early this afternoon.
Ziya Pir of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party wrote on Twitter: “We were notified of an attack… The Meclis [parliament] is being evacuated.”
Police have now said the warning turned out to be a false alarm.
However, no more explanation has been given. Police are said to be investigating what happened.
The parliament building was among the public assets bombed by plotters during the coup attempt on the night of July 16.
The country remains on a high state of alert.
The failed coup kicked off on Friday evening and ran throughout the night.
Shocking scenes including protestors being shot at from helicopters were beamed around the world.
Meanwhile, Turkey’s Anadolu state news reports ex-Gen. Akin Ozturk has confessed to leading the coup attempt. Ozturk has previously denied involvement.
