Incumbent president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been declared the winner of Zimbabwe’s presidential election, against claims of vote-rigging.

Reacting to his victory, Mnangagwa took to Twitter to thank Zimbabweans, saying it’s a new “beginning.” He wrote,

“Thank you Zimbabwe!

“I am humbled to be elected President of the Second Republic of Zimbabwe.

“Though we may have been divided at the polls, we are united in our dreams.

“This is a new beginning. Let us join hands, in peace, unity & love, & together build a new Zimbabwe for all!”

Emmerson who contested under the country’s ruling party ZANU-PF, won at least 50.8 percent of the votes with Nelson Chamisa going closely with 44.3 percent.
