Three injured as female hostel collapses in IMT, Enugu
Three students of one of the Premier Polytechnics in Nigeria, Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu escaped death by whiskers as one of the female hostels collapsed on Monday.
The students who were recuperating at various hospitals in the state metropolis where they were rushed to for medical attention were students of Mass Communication department.
Newsmen who visited the HopeCare Medical Centre, located at about 10 poles away from the institution where one of the students identified as Oluchi Obetta was taken to, reported that her face was swollen and mouth disfigured on the account of the incident.
It was gathered that the other two students who were taken to the Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu, one identified as Miss Amanda, had a broken neck and waist.

Narrating the incident to our correspondent, Oluchi an off-campus student, who struggled to speak, said “on Monday morning around 10 am, I went to the hostel to call my friend Amanda for a lecture we supposed to have that morning.
“So, when I got to the hostel, on the first floor of the two-storey building, she was washing plate at the balcony.
She begged me to wait for her.
So, while I was standing and waiting for her to finish, another student came down to her at the balcony.
“We were discussing and all of sudden, the balcony where she was washing the plates collapsed.
The next thing I found myself in this hospital.
My friend, Amanda was taken to Orthopedic Hospital because, as I was told, she broke her neck and waist,” she said.
Miss Oluchi, however, told our correspondent that a delegation from the school came and demanded that she be transferred to the school clinic to enable the institution take care of medical treatment, saying that the school will not be responsible for her medical treatment at the private hospital.
She said that she declined because she wasn’t sure of proper treatment in the school clinic due to her severe condition.
Reacting, the Public Relations officer of the institute, Mr. Mark Eze, told our correspondent on telephone on Tuesday that there was no official report of the incident to the management.
