Tiger kills zookeeper in “freak accident”

A zookeeper was reportedly killed by a tiger in Hamerton Zoo Park, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

It was gathered that the female zookeeper, Rosa King, 33, died at the zoo at 11:15 a.m. local time.

It was reported by several sources as a freak accident, as the spokeswoman for the zoo also denied claims on social media that the animalhad escaped from its enclosure.

It is yet to be explained how the incident happened but police in the area confirmed it.

Visitors to the attraction have been evacuated.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that no animals have escaped and members of the public are safe.”

Authorities of the zoo have also released a statement, saying investigations are ongoing into what led to the accident.
“We are sorry but our staff are too distressed to speak directly to the media, as one of our colleagues was killed at Hamerton Zoo Park this morning,” the zoo said in a statement via Facebook.

“This appears to have been a freak accident.

“A full investigation is currently underway and we hope that more details can be announced as soon as we are able.

“At no point during the incident did any animals escape their enclosures, and at no point was public safety affected in any way.
All our thoughts and sympathies are with our colleagues friends and families at this dreadful time.”
