Tinubu, a bridge builder between North, South, deserves 2023 Presidency – Kaduna group

Insecurity, terror attacks exposing military to ridicule, Tinubu laments

A group, Disciples of Jagaban said on Tuesday in Kaduna that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu deserves to be Nigeria’s President, come 2023.

This, they said, was because the former Lagos State Governor remained a bridge-builder between the north and the southern parts of Nigeria.

The group said, notwithstanding some northerners’ stance in the retention of the Presidency in 2023, the real elders of the region, were behind Tinubu to be the next president.

But the group failed to give further insight as to their assertion that the real elders from the north, were behind Tinubu’s quest for the 2023 Presidency.

National Coordinator of DOJ, Abdulhakeem Alawuje, who addressed a press conference in Kaduna on Tuesday, described the former governor as a “bridge builder”, a reason, he said, made Nigeria an entity today.

Alawuje said:

“We are aware some northern elders are clamoring for north to retain presidency beyond 2023 but let met tell you they are not the real elders. We know those who are elders in the north and the real elders are in support of Asiwaju.

“However, we know there must be opposition. If Asiwaju is coming out without opposition that means it is not politics. But the question we must ask is; are those oppositions representing the interest of the north or they are doing it for their own selfish interest?

“I was part and parcel of northern politics and we know what these people that are parading themselves as northern elders are up to. We know what they are to Buhari then. We know people that we can call elders in the north and they all still stand by Asiwaju. So am telling you, the northern elders are 100 per cent with Asiwaju.

“We are not just coming out to sell Asiwaju, we have come to let people know the reason they must support him. Let me start by telling you that in 2015, we knew what this man contributed to the unity of this country. The same thing in 2019.

“He is the only link between the south and the north as far as Nigeria is concerned today. Despite all the challenges, he still maintained his stand in APC, that is why we come from the north and the south to form the DOJ.”

Recall that the Prof. Ango Abdullahi – led Northern Elders’ Forum had said that the region should retain the Presidency, come 2023.

The former Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, had said at a book launch in December, 2019, said the rotation of the Presidency between the North and the south was the making of political parties to win elections which was encouraged by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and jettisoned under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

“God and check the constitution, there is no place it said the president of Nigeria will be shared according to local government, states or geopolitical zones. In fact, geopolitical zone does not exist in the constitution. Go and check,” he had said.
