Published

With the large number of songs being churned out by both Nigerian and international artistes daily, there is no doubt that most music lovers may be thrown into confusion on the songs to listen to and even add to their list of favourite songs.

However, here is a compilation of the top five trending songs currently every lover of pop culture need to add to their playlists.

1. Beautiful People ft. Khalid by Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran has always had a knack for making catchy songs. His entire discography is filled with several different earworms – many of which, most listeners end up imbibing subconsciously after hearing it just a few times. His song, Beautiful People, off his latest album, No.6 Collaborations Project, is just one of them, sporting a catchy and indelible melody you’ll likely want to hear all summer.

The track features American R&B artist, Khalid, and is produced by Shellback, Max Martin, FRED and the artist himself. It also sports an uplifting message that is spread across a number of songs by Sheeran. A message which, – if you know anything about the artist – is consistent with his general demeanour. That message: It’s okay to be yourself!

2. Superman by Superstar Ace

Still riding the momentum from the success of his debut single, Fundamental featuring Runtown, afrobeats maestro, Superstar Ace releases his new lively single, Superman.

With a familiar afrobeats sound, the track stands out due to Ace’s stellar delivery and witty lines sung in English, Pidgin and Yoruba. It is also produced by Nigerian producer, Phantom, who produced Burna Boy’s Ye.

3. Pookie ft. Lil Pump by Aya Nakamura

French phenom, Aya Nakamura, known for mega international hits like Djadjaand Copines, as well as Gang featuring Davido, recently dropped a remix to her 2019 single, Pookie. The remix features American rapper, Lil Pump.

The song is a catchy reggaetón number, showing off Aya’s natural vocal ability, as well as her ability to infuse urban and Afrobeats sounds into pop. Lil Pump also shines on this song with his trademark downplayed delivery, as well as his amusing adlibs.

4. I Like ft. Wizkid by Kojo Funds

Kojo Funds is backand making a late push for song of the summer with new single, I Like, featuring Nigerian superstar, Wizkid. The track is the UK artist’s first solo release since his acclaimed 2018 mixtape, Golden Boy.

The track is an infectious afro swing record, which shows both Kojo Funds and Wizkid at their best, with both artists delivering smooth, stellar verses on either side of Funds’ catchy chorus.

5. Ibeballinho ft. ShoMadjoziby pH Raw X

Don’t call it a comeback! Super producer pH Raw X returns after four years dropping a new single Ibeballinho, featuring exciting new South African artist, ShoMadjozi.

The track is an 808-heavy, trap-infused banger, with a fiery chorus and self-assured verses. pH Raw X’s autotuned vocals complement the beat very nicely, reminding of the distinct Atlanta sound sweeping across the world today. ShoMadjozi likewise brings a great amount of youthful energy and braggadocio to the record.
