Travel agent in court over alleged N730,000 Canadian visa fraud



A travel agent, Michael Samuel,30, appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining N730,000 to secure a Canadian visa for his client but failed to do so.

The police charged Samuel, who resides in Lekki, Lagos, with conspiracy, obtaining by false pretences, theft and fraud.

The prosecution counsel, Insp. Innocent Odugbo told the court that Samuel committed the offence in November 2018 at Ikeja.

Odugbo alleged that the defendant obtained N730,000 from the complainant, Mr Michael Monday with a promise to secure a Canadian visa within one month.

He alleged that the defendant stopped picking the complainant’s calls and all efforts made to recover the money failed.

The offence, he said, contravened the protrusions of sections 280, 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate  S. K Matepo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Matepo adjourned the case until April 1 for mention.
