One Mallam Umar, an attendant in Lawthel Pharmacy near University Of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, was on Thursday morning robbed by an alleged commercial tricycle rider.

According to a Borno based journalist, Junaid Jibril Maiva, the attacker poured a substance on the victim’s eyes and threw him out of the tricycle after collecting an undisclosed amount of money from him.

Maiva said Umar was coming from FCMB bank along Baga road when he boarded the tricycle home.

He said the victim is currently undergoing treatment in the accident and emergency ward of the University of Maiduguri Teaching hospital.

The incident has left residents in fear following the menace caused by some tricycle operators in the town last week.

Recall that a 24-year old final year student of the University of Maiduguri, Fatima Habu Usman, was kidnapped from a tricycle on her way home from school on Friday, March 16. She was reportedly raped and bathed with acid by her yet to be identified attackers.

Meanwhile, the state’s Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa met with the leadership of the commercial tricycle riders association at his office in a bid to curb a reoccurrence of such incident.

He warned the leaders of the commercial tricycle operators to sanitize its membership and fish out the bad eggs among them else government would take drastic measures against them.
