New investigation launched into murder of rapper Tupac Shakur
If the man who pulled the trigger on the iconic American rapper Tupac Shakur thinks he will never be discovered, let him have a rethink.
Twenty-one years after the brutal killing, a fresh investigation is being launched to find the gunman.
The iconic artist was killed aged 25 when an unknown gunman opened fire on his vehicle in Las Vegas in a deadly revenge attack.
The rapper had sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
But for years fans have been desperate to see Tupac’s killer brought to justice. Despite numerous investigations, no one has been charged and the identity of Tupac’s murderer remains a mystery.
But now leading civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump has launched a new probe into all the “key theories” surrounding his death.
Crump, who has represented families of black men shot by US cops, is investigating all avenues, including whether late rapper Orlando Anderson killed Tupac.
In September, US detectives Tim Brennan and Robert Ladd said they believed the rival gangster, then 23, was behind the brutal slaying.
Crump will work with Tupac’s brother, Mopreme Shakur, during the course of the investigation that will be shown on TV.
And he will also meet and interview ex-members of the Bloods and Crips gangs to find out what they know.
Mr Crump said: “Tupac’s influence on society is still felt today, and the public is still keenly interested in finding out what really happened to him.
“Some truly fascinating discoveries will be revealed each week.”
Meanwhile, Tupac’s photos, jewelry and hand-written song lyrics would go on auction on Wednesdau.
His handwritten love letters to a woman named Simi Chouhan from prison could fetch $4,000 each. The only copy of an unreleased demo from 1990 featuring five songs is estimated to fetch $15,000 and a silver and diamond gun charm that he wore on a necklace is tipped to sell for $7,000.
The items are to be auctioned on ‘Gotta Have Rock and Roll’ and they are could be worth a total of around $320,000.
Ed Kosinski, co-owner of Gotta Have Rock and Roll, said:
“I’m pretty excited for many reasons, it’s the biggest and most important collection of Tupac material ever to come up for auction.
“We have handwritten letters and lyrics, unreleased recordings no one has ever heard, to jewellery, his death certificate and more, we have a tremendous amount of Tupac material.
“We also have Tupac’s only nude photograph with copyright too, then many other incredible items.
“We have contracts that Tupac had to sign in prison to personal letters sent to a girlfriend while he was in prison. We have one of his gun charms and a photograph of him wearing the charm as a necklace. I found this particularly interesting and if I was a collector I would love to own it. No one has ever seen anything like this ever before and these are very important items like handwritten lyrics, letters, poetry, bandanas and more.”
Gotta Have Rock and Roll is an online auction site devoted to pop art and rock and roll, launched in 2008.
They spent over a year amassing the wide variety of lots for this auction running online from November 22 to December 1.
