Twitter fumes as Forbes crowns Kylie Jenner youngest self-made billionaire ‘ever’

Published

There’s being an ongoing debate online after Forbes named 21-year-old Jenner, who founded beauty company Kylie Cosmetics, in 2015 the world’s youngest self-made billionaire ever.

According to the magazine, the 21-year-old reached a 10 figure fortune at a younger age than even Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg who was 23 when he achieved the milestone in 2008.

While the Kardashian/Jenner clan have been celebrating their latest feat, some critiques from all works of life have opined that the “self-made” title seems dubious.

Many argued that Kylie’s fame and wealth is a function of her status as a member of one of the wealthy and visible family.

Recall that Forbes was hotly critiqued for calling Kylie Jenner a soon-to-be “self-made billionaire” back in July 2018, when she was poised to hit the $1 billion mark.

Now she’s hit it, all hell has been let loose.

In mid-November, Kylie Jenner marked a milestone moment with a visit to a strip mall. For the past three years, her Kylie Cosmetics had only sold its makeup online and briefly in pop up shops.

But after signing an exclusive distribution deal with Ulta, the beauty retailer, Kylie Cosmetics was rolling its $29 lip kits—a matte liquid lipstick and matching lip liner—into Ulta’s 1,000-plus stores.

With all these in play, Kylie Cosmetics has become a sought after brand in the make-up world. The mother of one who has over 128 million followers on Instagram page also markets her brand to her ever attentive fans and followers.

Formerly known as Kylie Lip Kits, the company was renamed Kylie Cosmetics in 2016 after the release of the liquid lipstick and lip liner set on November 30, 2015.
