Two friends arraigned over alleged theft of money, gold ring

Two friends, Chika Okeke and Doris Okeke have appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The 33-year old and 37-year old were in court on charges of stealing money and gold ring, all valued N2.4 million.

The Prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the money and jewelry belong to Mr Adeniyi Kuku, who is Chika’s lover.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor alleged that the offences were committed between Aug. 4 and Nov. 26, 2019 at No. 1, Boladale St., Oshodi, Lagos.

According to Ogu, the first defendant, Chika and the Complainant, Kuku are lovers.

He said Chika and the second defendant (Doris) stayed with Kuku in his house.

Ogu alleged that the defendants used the complainant’s company to transact N960, 000 visa business and failed to remit the proceeds into the company’s account.

The prosecutor said that the defendants stole the gold ring valued N200, 000; N400,000 cash, a laptop and 2,300 pounds and 1000 U.S. dollars, all valued, N2.4 million.

He further alleged that the defendants ran away from the complainant’s house and all efforts to trace them failed.

“Their phone numbers were tracked and they were arrested,’’ he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Adegun adjourned the case until March 4 for mention.
