Two Islamic clerics have been arrested in Kaduna State for conducting prayers in spite of a lockdown order by the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

On Thursday, the state government invoked the quarantine act of 1926 and the Kaduna state public health law, to impose a curfew in the state, as one of the measures of curbing the spread of coronavirus.

The Kaduna State Government confirmed the arrest of Aminu Umar Usman and Umar Shangel in a tweet on Saturday, March 28, and further disclosed that they will be prosecuted for disobeying the lockdown order.

The tweet reads:

“KADUNA UPDATE: Two clerics have been arrested for conducting congregational prayers in violation of Kaduna State public health preventive measures.

“A KDSG statement said that Malam Aminu Umar Usman and Malam Umar Shangel will be prosecuted.”
