Two killed as cement truck catches fire in Kogi
An accident involving a cement truck claimed two lives around Felele area in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, on Monday.
It was gathered that the truck was coming from Obajana fully loaded with bags of cement when the accident occurred around 4 pm.
According to an eye-witness, the articulated vehicle was on its way to one of the northern states when the incident occurred.
The sources further added that on getting to Felele along Lokoja- Abuja road as the vehicle was descending, the brake of the vehicle failed as it crashed into a heavy barricade at the centre of the road and then somersaulted.
The accident led to the burning of the vehicle as the two people, the driver and the truck boy were burnt beyond recognition.
Meanwhile, members of the Federal Road Safety Corps were on hand to control the traffic and also evacuate the cement bags that littered the road to avoid another accident.
The Firefighters were not left out as they put off the fire to also avoid further explosion since the scene of the accident is very close to some Petrol stations.
