Two men allegedly steal danfo, land in court

The accused, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences on Jan. 29 at about 10 a. m. at Sango-Ota.

Mustapha alleged that the accused conspired among themselves to steal a commercial Volkswagen bus with Lagos registration number EKY 288 XX, valued at N1.2 million.

The bus was said to belong to one Ameh Chinedu, who is also the complainant.

He said that

“The accused were caught in the process of committing the crime by the security guards and they were handed over to the police.”

He said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 20 for further hearing.
