Two men die in Plateau well, rescue worker injured
Two men on Wednesday died in a well located at a compound in K-Vom community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state.
It was not clear what led to the death of the two men whose identity were yet to be ascertained at press time, but it was gathered that the deceased were working inside the well when they suddenly collapsed inside the pit.
It was further gathered that some community members who were alarmed by the incident immediately alerted some policemen in the area who in turn, called men of the state fire service for assistance.
However, one of the Fire Service workers who was drafted to the scene was critically injured in the head while trying to pull out the victims from inside the well.
The two men were later pulled out dead while the injured worker from the state fire service was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Plateau state Director of Fire Service, Mr Samuel Nzwak confirmed the development to our correspondent in Jos on Wednesday.
Nzwak said:
” What happened was that some policemen came to our office in Bukuru in the morning and requested for our assistance to rescue two people said to be trapped inside a well in K-Vom.
“It was discovered that the two People working inside the well were already dead when they were pulled out from the well eventually.
“But while inside the well, a stone from nowhere fell and hit one of our servicemen on the head and he sustained some injuries including his hands.
“He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and from the report I got, he is responding to treatment. It was really an unfortunate incident.”
