Two to die by hanging for killing UniOsun 400 Level student
The killers of one Rofiat Adebisi, a 400 Level student of the Osun State University, Ipetu-Modu Campus are to die by hanging.
This is the pronouncement of Justice Oyejide Falola of an Osun State High Court where the 18-month trial of 25-year-old, Elijah Oyebode, and Jelili Raji aka Ifa, 35, was finalised on Thursday.
WuzupNigeria reports that the convicts were first arraigned before the court on 14th November 2017, alongside one Yusuf Ajibade on three counts of conspiracy to commit murder, murder all said to be contrary to Sections 324, 316 and Punishable under Section 319 and S, 322 of the Criminal Code Cap.3 Laws of Osun state, 2002.
While the trial lasted, the prosecution team called five witnesses and tendered exhibits before the court.
The defence called the accused, who testified for themselves.
Giving facts of the matter, the lead prosecution counsel, Kareem Adekilekun, who appeared with Kemi Oyolola, for the Ministry of Justice, said on the 22nd December 2016 one Miss Rofiat Damilola Adebisi, a 400 Level student of Osun State University, Ipetu-Ijesa Campus boarded a car driven by Elijah Oyebode got missing.
However, on the 23rd of December, 2016 dead body of Rofiat was found by the roadside along Egbeda/Iragbiji Road.
Following investigations by the police, one Yusuf Ajibade was arrested for selling the deceased iPhone to Quadri on the instruction of Oyebode, who drove the vehicle she travelled in.
When apprehended, Oyebode in his confessional statement claimed Jelili Raji had hired him to get a lady with the aid of a charm he gave him which would make the victim obey whatever instruction given.
Oyebode said Raji paid him N10, 000 to bring the victim to his shrine, adding that he hit the Rofiat with the charm while she was putting her luggage in the car.
Giving evidence before the court, Adeyeye Simon, a police officer from Homicide Section of State Criminal Investigation Department, Osun Command, told the court that Oyebode, a commercial driver plying Akure Owena Road, took Rofiat to Raji house after Elijah had sex with her.
He also claimed that Rofia died at Raji’s house, while Oyebode assisted him to dump her remains along Egbeda /Iragbiji road.
Another witness, Olatomiwa Alade, from the Department of State Security Service, said the deceased’s phone was traced to Kolapo Quadiri, who claimed he bought it from Yusuf Ajibade, that had acquired the item from Oyebode.
Counsel to accused, Suleiman Bello, urged the court to be merciful on his clients.
In his judgement, Justice Falola found Elijah Oyebode and Jelili Raji guilty of murder and conspiracy and sentenced them to death by hanging.
The court however discharged and acquitted Yusuf Ajibade of murder and conspiracy charge, while it sentenced him to two years jail term for receiving stolen property.
