U-17 World Cup: Nigeria’s Flamingoes fail to defeat England in Jordan

Nigeria’s U-17 female team, the Flamingoes this afternoon played out a goalless draw against their counterparts from England in Group C at the on-going U-17 Women World Cup holding in Jordan.

In the match played at the Prince Mohammed International Stadium in Zarqa, the Nigerian side had a better performance against the English team but they could not beat goal keeper Ellie Roebuck.

In fact, the Flamingoes had 52% of possession of the ball while England had 48% possession.

The coach Bala Nikyu led team had a total of 32 shots against England’s 10 shots with five of them on target. England had two shots on target.

England’s goalie made fives saves while Chiamaka Nnadozie  who was in Nigeria’s goal had only two saves to make.

As it stands right now, the U-17 team have to beat North Korea in their last group match to stand a chance of making it into the next round of the competition.

The Flamingoes suffered 0-1 defeat against Brazil in their first group match. While England settled for 3-3 draw against North Korea in their first match.

Brazil and North Korea are yet to play their second match as at the time of writing this report.

Despite only playing one match, Brazil still lead group C with three points, followed by England with two points from two matches while Nigeria and North Korea have one point apiece. But North Korea have only played one match.

In other group match played today, Ghana recorded a win after they bounced back from one goal down to defeat USA 2-1.
