UNPAID SALARIES! National Assembly workers begin strike, barricade parliament [Photos]
Workers at the National Assembly, under the auspices of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, have begun their four-day warning strike.
The workers stormed the entrances to the National Assembly Complex in the early hours of Monday to barricade the gates and prevent entry.
Workers at the National Assembly have now shut down power and water supplies to the complex.
However, supply to the Account Section of the Annex was spared with the workers allowed to do their work of preparing the next salary for the workers.
The blockage of all entrances to the building has forced banks, restaurants and other businesses, including the Radio Nigeria studio within the complex, to close shops.
Petty traders are now making brisk business, especially those selling water and snacks.
The strike is coming two days before President Muhammadu Buhari’s presentation of the 2019 appropriation to a joint session of the National Assembly.
The grievances of PASAN include a new condition of service for members, promotion, and payment of 28 per cent increment in salary captured as contained in the 2018 budget.
