Valentine’s day: NGO tasks youths to play safe, stay protected
Women Friendly Initiative (WFI), a Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO), on Friday urged youths to play safe and stay protected while celebrating Valentine’s Day.
Mrs Rosemary Adejo, Programme Coordinator of the organisation, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Gwagwalada, in commemoration of Valentine’s Day celebration.
Adejo said it was important for youths in the country to play safe and stay protected during and after the Valentine’s Day celebration in order to protect themselves against the transmission of HIV infection.
“It is important for our youths to stay protected, play safe and get tested to know their status.
“However, if they cannot abstain from sex. If they cannot abstain they should use condoms as it would prevent STDs, including HIV and unwanted pregnancies.
According to Adejo, Valentine period is a time for young people to express love to one another, but such love should be expressed cautiously, within the context of caring for their loved ones.
”Youths should desist from indulging in sinful acts, especially fornication, while they celebrate Valentine’s Day.
“Love is obviously the greatest and most desired virtue of life, and if our lives aren’t filled with love, life will not be complete,” she said..
Newsmen report that Valentine’s Day is celebrated every Feb. 14, and many people exchange cards, candy gifts or flowers with their loved ones.
