Louis Van Gaal set for another top job
Few months after he was relieved of his job at Manchester United, former Netherlands coach, Louis van Gaal, could be set for a return to international football.
According to The Sun, Van Gaal is an early contender to replace Marc Wilmots as Belgium boss, but only if he lowers his wage demands.
Van Gaal was on an £8m-a-year contract at Old Trafford, as reported by The Times, who claim that just £3.3m of that figure was his annual salary, with the rest made up of image rights and bonuses – not all of which were earned as United failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League.
The Sun quote Belgium bigwig Linard Gerard as saying: “We do not have the budget of France, Spain or Germany and Louis van Gaal has high wages which are not within our budget.
“To become Belgium manager, he needs to lower his wages.”
Despite this statement, The Sun report that Belgian are considering making Van Gaal an offer.
LVG has twice managed the Netherlands, but the vast majority of his non-playing roles have been at club level.
His former clubs include AZ, Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, as well as United.
Despite being knocked out of Euro 2016 by Wales, Belgium remain second in the FIFA World Rankings, behind only Argentina.
