Vehicle crushes ‘Okada’ rider to death in Akure

An irate mob of commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders threw caution into the thin air as they burnt down a Honda EOD car for reportedly crushing their colleague to death in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The deceased Okada rider, whose identity is still unknown as at the time of filing this report, was said to have been crushed by the driver of the burnt car.

It was gathered that the accident occurred at NEPA roundabout area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.

According to an eyewitness, who said that the deceased gave up the ghost at the spot, Okada riders who converged within minutes went on rampage set the affected vehicle ablaze.

He added that the manner at which Okada rider fell directly in front of the vehicle which was coming on top speed behind him without any impact suggest that the deceased might be drunk.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, Femi Joseph, stated that the identity of the man was yet to be ascertained.

The PPRO, who added that before the arrival of the police, an angry mob had already burnt the vehicle, stated that no arrest has been made while the remains of the Okada rider has been deposited at the mortuary.
