Video: Education ministry awaits reports on ‘lesson’ teacher who brutalised pupil in Badagry

Published

The Lagos State Ministry of Education has said it is awaiting a report from the team sent out to investigate a teacher seen in a viral video brutalising a pupil for not being able to read properly.

In the footage that went viral on the social media, the teacher identified simply as Chuks could be seen beating the pupil aggressively with a cane while pushing her to some furniture.

The pupil that was beaten in the video could be heard saying that she wanted to die while the teacher responded that she should die while still beating her.

At some point in the video, the pupil could be heard saying that she would read but Chuks continued beating her while the pupil was struggling to get free from the teacher.

It was gathered that the incident happened around the Igborosun area of Badagry.

However, some Nigerians have called for the arrest of the teacher and the closedown of the centre.

One of the commenters on Instablog9ja, @lord_selmo said,

“This breaks me bad… Can someone arrest this man before he kills another child.”

Another commenter on Twitter, @ZicOsika, said,

“It’s so difficult to watch. No child should be assaulted like this. This teacher should be arrested immediately.”

@geedayyy said,

“The teacher should just cool off in the prison for three months first before any trial starts. The little girl was even saying that she will read, that man is a beast and a monster.”

Another commenter @ilebsky said,

“This teacher has personal issues. This only exposes his inner demon. He should undergo anger management program before being allowed back into the noble profession.”

One of the commenters on Twitter, @The_Jonathanian said,

“There’s a difference between correction and punishment. This teacher is a sadist who transfers his anger problem and frustration on his students. He needs to be stopped.”

However, the state Ministry of Education’s Public Relations Officer, Kayode Abayomi, said the ministry had sent some staff to investigate the matter.

“The Ministry of Education has sent some staff to investigate. The place is an unregistered centre but the ministry still awaits the report of the team to know the next line of action but one thing I’m certain of is that once the centre is not approved by the state government, it will certainly be closed down,” he said.
