Video: Majek Fashek is alive, let’s not wish him dead, says Manager

Veteran Nigerian singer and guitarist, Majekodunmi Fasheke, better known as Majek Fashek, is alive and currently receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in England, his manager, Uzoma Omenka has confirmed.

Mr. Uzoma Omenka gave an update on the state of his health via a video post shared on the official Instagram page of the “send down the rain” crooner.

Omenka urged well-wishers not to believe the false reports that he is dead adding that he is gradually responding to treatment and also sends his greetings.

The manager also thanked and urged all to keep praying for him adding that more donations will be welcome.

He is improving gradually, responding to treatments, greetings from the legendary Majek Fashek”.

WuzupNaija notes that Mr, Omenka did not reveal the nature of Majek’s ailment.

Fashek was born in Benin City to an Edo mother and a Yoruba father but identifies with his Benin roots. Various translations of his name Fasheke (Ifa-kii-she-eke) include “high priest who does not lie”, “powers of miracles” and “(system or medium of) divination does not lie”

After his parents separated Fashek remained in Benin City with his mother, and soon joined the choir in his local Aladura church and learned to play the trumpet and guitar whilst composing songs for the choir.

In 2015, it was revealed that Majek was bankrupt and battling drug addiction. After admitting that he needed help at the time, he was admitted into a drug rehabilitation centre in Abuja.
