Vigilance member shoots commercial driver dead over N5,000 bribe

A local vigilance member has reportedly killed a commercial driver over N5,000 bribe.

WuzupNigeria gathered that the vigilance member, simply identified as Sule, was hired by Eyenkorin community in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Sule allegedly shot dead the commercial bus driver, known as Idowu, when he was returning from a trip in Ibadan during the current COVID-19 lockdown period of the state government.

Sule and his colleagues were said to have stopped the driver at Eyenkorin area of the metropolis, demanding to be paid the sum of N5,000, which the driver reportedly resisted and an argument ensued.

Sule was said to have shot Idowu on the chest during the argument.

WuzupNigeria gathered that after committing the act Sule fled the area with his family.

Another version of the story, however, had it that the driver apparently drove through forest routes where he had the unfortunate encounter with the local vigilante officer engaged by the community.

It was gathered that the remains of the deceased have since been deposited at the General Hospital, Ilorin morgue after a complaint was lodged with the police by the family of the deceased.

It was gathered that Idowu, who had recently survived a ghastly auto crash, is survived by three months old son, wife and an aged mother.

Speaking on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, who said that the local vigilante officer is on the run, added that the community association that engaged the local vigilante member has been invited.

The police spokesperson also said that investigation is ongoing on the matter.
