Watch it! These four incidents are unbelievably common as Christmas approaches

Published

As the festive season inches closer, many events are sure to take place, and crime is definitely not goon for to be left out.

The general perception of Nigerians during the last four months of the year; September, October, November and December (popularly calledt the -ember months), is that many terrible things are likely to befall them, especially if they travel.

While many people see it as a period to bond with loved ones whom they have been away from, some others believe it is a period of the year when one shouldn’t even think about traveling.

Even though many of people’s superstitious beliefs don’t often come to pass, some are still relevant with the time and season that we are quickly getting into.

WuzupNaija has now thought it wise to bring you about four criminal activities that are likely to dominate this festive season.

1. Missing persons

Without so much explanation, it is almost normal for reports to filter communities about people getting missing and not being found.

Some people may fall victim of ritual attacks.

The general perception is that a lot of ritualists try to make quick money so as to have enough to celebrate this festive period with, therefore cases of missing persons are likely to be more rampant this season.

2. Kidnaps

While the issue of missing persons may be associated to ritual killings and the likes, the now common abduction case in Nigeria is for extortion.

People get kidnapped for a ransom and as soon as specific conditions are met, the abducted persons are released and the exploiters often escape unless it’s a high profile incident.

Cases associated to abduction are likely to be on the increase this period, therefore, people are encouraged to be watchful of their movements, especially in places that look quiet.

3. Daylight robbery

Even when the festivities are not getting close, the reported cases of daylight robbery have kept increasing, but this is even likely to get worse as Christmas approaches.

The fact that Nigeria is in a terrible situation of economic recession is testament to the fact that more cases of robbery are likely to be reported this season.

People have to be more security conscious as the festivities draw near.

Those who press phones beside opened widows inside public or private vehicles are more susceptible to these attacks.

Some daredevil robbers even attack people in their homes. Therefore, caution should be taken in dealing with strangers.

4. Terrible accidents

Believe it or not, terrible accidents occur this period, not because they were made for the festive seasons, but because people rush more during festivities.

The principle of ‘more haste, less speed’ is often thrown to the wind and people get unnecessarily in a haste to get to their destinations.

Many people even fear to travel when the festive period approaches as they are often scared of such incidents.

The antidote for this is to apply more caution on the roads this season as there are likely to be more careless people who will cross your path.
