We can perform better with support from stakeholders, says ex-beauty queen
Miss Anita Ukah, the immediate past Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN), has said that with support from stakeholders, Nigerian beauty queens have the potential to rule international beauty pageantry.
Ukah said that, this was because of the impressive ways Nigerian young ladies had been performing in some of the past international beauty contests.
She said that last December, Douglas Nykachi emerged one of the best five beauties in the Miss World pageantry held in ExCel, London.
Newsmen report that Douglas Nykachi, the current MBGN got to the top five after she had lost out to Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh and, eventually, emerged the Miss World Africa.
The 21-year-old Nykachi, being the first Nigerian to attain the level of Miss World Africa since 2004, was also named Miss World Top Model, having won the head-to-head challenge.
Ukah, the 2014-Miss-Igbinedion-University beauty queen, was also among the top 30 in the 2018 Miss World contest.
“It is obvious that we are having quality representatives and a good outing in the international pageantry.
“We can do better with adequate supports and commitments from relevant stakeholders,’’ Ukah said.
She appealed to the stakeholders such as designers, media directors, modeling agencies and artists to always support aspiring beauty queens and those vying for continental and international contests.
“With maximum co-operation from them, our queens and models will come out on top in any international competition.
“This is because Nigeria is rich in culture with unique talents,” she said.
The Imo-state-born model said that the public should understand that any model or beauty queen from Nigeria that stands on the international stage was representing Nigeria.
“She does not stand there for herself or for her directors, she is there representing Nigerians and Nigeria,” she added.
Ukah said that Nigeria should continue to maintain her position as the giant of Africa by encouraging her nationals to participate in good ventures that include beauty shows.
She also appealed to corporate bodies and private individuals to show interests in sponsoring promising candidates for international pageantry.
