We placed curse anyone who takes our girls abroad for sex trade, says Eluojieroir, Onogie of Igueben
The Onogie of Igueben and Okaigun of Esanland in Edo State, His Royal Highness, Ehizogie Eluojieroir, says his kingdom has placed a curse on anyone who trafficked girls from Esanland.
The monarch further said that to curb the incidence of trafficking, Esanland has begun “creating awareness, educating our girls and trying to get an alternative job that they can do in our environment, rather than allowing traffickers to deceive them by trafficking them through illegal routes”.

He said,
Our women have been degraded and dehumanised. It has never been so in our culture. Therefore, we had to come out openly to deny that it (human trafficking) is now part of our culture. So, we have placed a curse on anyone that takes our girls abroad for sex trade. Some had claimed that the curse (earlier placed by the Oba of Benin) would not affect those in Esanland. But we disagreed with them and that is why we had to follow what the Oba did, by placing a curse on any person that engages in the trafficking of our girls.
