West Ham loan Thomas Soucek from Slavia Prague

West Ham have completed the signing of Czech Republic midfielder Thomas Soucek from Slavia Prague on loan until the end of the season, with an option-to-buy.

Soucek, 24, has scored 10 goals in 19 appearances for Slavia this season and would cost the Hammers £13m.

Manager David Moyes said Soucek, who has 25 international caps, “fits the profile of the player we want”.

“We are in a difficult period where we need experienced players,” added Moyes, who is in his second spell at the club.

“At the moment he [Soucek] ticks a lot of boxes. We need to give him an opportunity and time to settle in.”

He added,

“We are delighted to welcome Tomáš to West Ham United. I think that he gives us a lot of different qualities, but most importantly he fits the profile of the player we want to bring to the Club. He is young and hungry but with an established pedigree and proven talent,” Moyes said.

“He was captain of Slavia Prague, he’s played as a defensive midfielder but he’s scored a lot of goals as an attacking midfielder as well. At the moment he ticks a lot of boxes. We need to give him the opportunity and time to settle in but we are confident he will prove to be a strong addition to the squad.”

Moyes, who replaced Manuel Pellegrini on 30 December, said on Tuesday the club had also submitted another bid, believed to be for a right-back.

West Ham are 17th in the Premier League table, outside of the relegation places only on goal difference.
