The victim is said to be traumatised by the incident, which led to the killing of Shamba the lion.

The spokesperson for the victim, Bernadette Maguire, said that Mr Hodge walked with assistance from a physiotherapist at a private hospital in Johannesburg.

She said Hodge will remain in the hospital for some weeks because his wounds are still open until doctors are sure there is no infection.
