Mixed reactions have continued to trail the constitution of the new Economic Advisory Council which has as members prominent economic experts like a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Prof Chukwuma Soludo and former member of the CBN’s Monetary Policy Committee, Prof Doyin Salami.

WuzupNigeria reports that President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday constituted the EAC to replace the Economic Management Team chaired by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.

The new EAC Buhari named on Monday had Prof Salami as the Chairman.

Other members are Dr. Mohammed Sagagi (Vice-Chairman); Prof Ode Ojowu; Dr Shehu Yahaya; Dr Iyabo Masha; Prof Chukwuma Soludo; Mr Bismark Rewane; and  Dr Mohammed Adaya Salisu (Secretary).

Following the announcement of the new economic team, Nigerians have taken to social media to share their views about the EAC members.

While many were of the opinion that they are economic experts who are capable of turning around the economic fortune of the nation with their experience, some, however, expressed fears that the president may not implement their advice.

The Head of Business News at Channels TV, Boason Omofaye tweeted:

About two (2) months ago, I requested here on twitter that President @MBuhari sets up an all private sector led Economic Advisory Council. Mr President just did. He also scraped the extant Economic Management Team. New team reports directly to Mr President himself.

I tweeted then that the State of the Economy requires a A-Team of crack advisors in broad areas beyond the traditional Economic Council headed by the VP. Now new EAC has @BJRewane former CBN chief #Soludo and others on the list. Let’s get down to work, folks.”

Bloomberg’s correspondent, Paul Wallace also tweeted:

“Interesting choices, especially Doyin Salami and Charles Soludo. Both of them have in the past been very critical of the CBN under Emefiele (admittedly at the peak of the FX crisis. Their views may have since changed).”
