Brazilian Willian also looks set to leave the club come the end of the season, with the two parties unable to agree an acceptable deal over the past months.

The Blues have offered the 31-year-old a two-year deal, though he has been holding out for a three-year-deal and could stay in London with Tottenham and Arsenal both having kept tabs on the situation.

Willian has provided much-needed experience for Frank Lampard’s side during the manager’s first season in charge and has notched seven goals and six assists in all competitions so far.

Lampard, who played alongside Willian towards the end of his time as a player in west London, made it clear from the outset that he wanted all those who had started the season with the club to stay until the end.
