Winnie Mandela in hospital for kidney infection

South African activist and politician, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was admitted to a hospital at the weekend with kidney infection.

In a statement released by her spokesman, Victor Dlamini on Tuesday, January 23, 2017, “Winnie had complained of a ‘loss of appetite’ and that ‘one of her legs was painful’. She was taken to the Milpark Hospital on Sunday.

“Upon admission‚ it was discovered that she had an infection that had affected her kidneys. She is expected to make a full recovery and should spend approximately a week at the hospital.”

He also said that the 81-year-old was in high spirit as family and friends visited the hospital, timeslive.co.za reports.

She was married to Nelson Mandela for 38 years, including 27 years during which he was imprisoned.
