Winnie Mandela survives kidney infection

South African activist and politician, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after treatment for a kidney infection, spokesman for the Mandela family said.

Her family in a statement on Tuesday  said they were “delighted that she has now been discharged from hospital.”

Winnie also expressed joy over her discharge and said she is looking forward to resting and recuperating fast.

“I’m pleased to be going back home where I’ll be able to rest and fully recuperate from the short illness. The doctors and nurses who looked after me were wonderful.”

The 81-year-old was admitted to Milpark on 20th of January 2018 with a kidney infection and also reportedely suffered from exhaustion, timeslive.co.za reports.

She had complained of a “loss of appetite” and that “one of her legs was painful” before admission.

She was married to Nelson Mandela for 38 years, including 27 years during which he was imprisoned.
