Woman gives birth to conjoined twins with two heads and three hands, but they share one heart

Jaswant Singh Ahirwar, 25, and his wife, Babita Ahirwar, 21, gave birth to conjoined twins

An Indian woman fainted from shock Saturday after delivering a “baby boy” with two heads and three hands.

Babita Ahirwar, 21, and her husband, Jaswant Singh Ahirwar, 25, had arrived at the Vidisha Sadar hospital in the Madhya Pradesh district for a routine ultrasound during her 35th week of pregnancy, Caters News reported.

Doctors told the unsuspecting couple they were having twins — a prospect that thrilled them. However, the doctors neglected to notice one major detail: The baby boys were conjoined.

Needless to say, the parents were stunned when Babita gave birth. The first-time mother “fainted after she saw the baby,” according to Jaswant, who works as a day labourer.

“It was a mixed feeling when the nurses handed over the baby to me,” the distraught mother, who gave birth via C-section at 7:30 a.m., told Newslions Media.

“When the nurses removed the towel, I was shocked to see our firstborn with two heads and three hands.”

It appears the Ahirwars have not yet fully grasped their situation, repeatedly referring to their sons as a single “baby” in local media reports.

One of the newborns’ hands has two palms attached to it — but the twins share one heart and other internal organs, according to Dr. Surendra Sonkar of Vidisha Sadar hospital.

“This is a very rare condition,” said Sonkar, a pediatric specialist, adding that this was the first time he had witnessed such a case in his career.

The birth was such an anomaly that the doctors transferred the twins to the “better equipped” Hamidia Medical College and Hospital in Bhopal, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

It is unknown how the still-unnamed babies will fare, however, and the parents expressed mixed feelings about the unexpected addition to their family.

“All we wanted was a normal and healthy baby, but the Almighty wanted to punish us this way,” Babita said. “I don’t know why.”

However, her more positive partner pledged to the Sun,

“This is my baby, and I will raise him as he is. I am yet to hold him in my hands.”
