Zamfara girl who set self ablaze over dowry receives cash donations
Respite seems to have come the way of 17-year-old Aisha Bello of Gusau town, Zamfara state who set herself ablaze for not getting married to her suitor a week ago as well-wishers have been supporting her with cash donations.
Aisha had attempted to kill herself because her suitor, Umar Faruku, could not raise funds to pay for dowry to marry her and was left at the mercy of traditional medicine sellers until a few days ago when she was taken to hospital by some concerned people who took interest in her condition.
A visit to her hospital bed at the Federal Medical Center Gusau where she is presently being treated revealed that the victim, whose family could not take care of her medical bills, has so far received that sum of N525,000 as donations from the public with the highest donation of N150.000 from the former deputy governor of the state, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala.
The father of the girl, Malam Ibrahim expressed joy for the assistance they have been getting from members of the public, stressing that, without the donations, the girl would have died at home.
“She would have died, because there was nothing the family could do regarding her health since we could not take her to hospital for lack of money.”

When asked whether her boyfriend has brought something for her treatment, Malam Ibrahim said, the boy could not give a single kobo.
Meanwhile, Aisha was responding to treatment, contrary to speculation that she was already dead.
